Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month all year long with EVAMAIA

For us at EVAMAIA, Hispanic Heritage Month is the whole year.

That's why we're posting this blog in optimal "Colombia-time" - almost a week past the official ending of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Colombia, our culture, our people, our ancestors, our latin and hispanic roots, are the essence of who we are. Every day of the year we are proud to bring you a little bit of our motherland through fashion, jewelry, bags, and accessories... plus our colorful energy and a big smile every time you visit us.

Colombian fashion is rooted in rich cultural traditions and artisanal craftsmanship, with iconic accessories like carrieles, ponchos and mochilas embodying the soul of the country's heritage. These pieces are more than just fashion statements; they tell stories of centuries-old techniques passed down through generations.

We would like to introduce you to these three different brands that are part of the beautiful treasures you can find at EVAMAIA Boutique.

PLISSÉ: An ode to craftsmanship and elegance.

Ponchos, dresses, kimonos, belts or scarves are some of the pieces of clothing and accessories Plisse offers to those who seek comfort without sacrificing style. The simplicity of its lines along with details full of tradition and colorful designs, creating a perfect balance between classic and modern.

Plissé's specialty is the exaltation of artisanal creativity. The fabrics for pieces such as ponchos are crafted by the Kichwa indigenous communities with craftsmanship and attention to detail, creating unique, soft and colorful pieces that stand out from the crowd.

JULIAN AGUDELO CARRIELES: Handcrafted leather bags, timeless Antioquia legacy.

This family business is dedicated to producing high quality leather goods, with a special focus on preserving the traditional Jericoan carriel (from Jerico, Antioquia), a symbol of Colombia's cultural heritage. They were initially intended for men to use as crossbody bags while working - usually riding a horse or mule around their farms.

Each bag is handcrafted by a small team of artisan bag makers in Colombia, requiring meticulous attention to detail. Made from the finest cowhides, each piece is a true work of art, designed to stand out for its authenticity. You won't find these bags in everyday stores - they are one-of-a-kind and embody the essence of Colombian heritage.

ROSA - Indigenous Wayuu artisan.

Rosa is part of the Ranchería Cucurumana community in La Guajira, Colombia, where artisan families create the classic "Mochilas Wayuu" cross-body bags, which are distinguished by their eye-catching designs and vivid colors.

A mochila is not just a bag. It's a little bit of heart, tradition, and home. Each design and tone is a piece of art, a piece of someone's history.

She learned that "it is possible to earn a stable income doing what I love the most - making Wayuu Mochilas that spread beauty around the world. By purchasing a Mochila Wayuu bag, you are directly supporting these families and their children.

At EVAMAIA, we love each and every one of these stories, and we support small businesses and artisans from Colombia with the goal of allowing more people in California and the U.S. to not only wear high quality clothing and accessories from our country, but also to learn more about our culture through fashion and art.

Everything is ethically handmade in Colombia!

See you at EVAMAIA (12053 1/2 Ventura Place, Los Angeles, CA)
